.JNtY OF N, ,, <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAI I • ; • I STATE OF HAWAI <br /> �rE CF•N►�:. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 52S 24 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAI`I <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION TO SUPPORT ITS EFFORTS ON RESTORING <br /> AND PRESERVING THE KEAU`OHANA STATE FOREST RESERVE. <br /> WHEREAS, Hawai`i Environmental Restoration(HER) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization whose mission is to help restore the natural integrity of Hawai`i's environment; and <br /> WHEREAS, HER's primary project is to focus on the restoration and preservation of <br /> Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve in the Puna District, the largest and most intact lowland <br /> rainforest remaining below 1,000 feet in the State of Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS,the ecosystems of the Hawaiian Islands are being lost to development, <br /> agriculture, and invasive species, requiring urgent conservation efforts; and <br /> WHEREAS, HER is requesting funds to cover gardening tools, outdoor gear, and office <br /> materials to ensure continuous community outreach initiatives aimed at fostering conservation <br /> and preservation endeavors for the Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Department of Research and Development supports research, control, <br /> and education programs to reduce the negative impact of invasive species on agricultural crops, <br /> forests, and the community; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawai`i Environmental Restoration to support <br /> its efforts on restoring and preserving the Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
