REQUEST: <br /> Prepare a resolution authorizing the County Director of Finance with approval from the Mayor to enter into a <br /> Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)with the State of Hawaii Department of Taxation regarding the <br /> sharing of confidential tax returns and tax return information relating to the administration of the State's <br /> Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT) and the County of Hawaii Transient Accommodations Tax (HCTAT). <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> Act 1, 1st Special Session 2021 (House Bill 862, H.D. 2, S.D. 2, C.D. 1), which became law on July 8, 2021, <br /> authorizes the counties to establish and administer their own transient accommodations tax at a maximum <br /> rate of three percent (3%) upon adoption of a local ordinance and Ordinance No. 21-89, which establishes <br /> the HCTAT, was adopted on December 10, 2021.
