Page 9 <br />] demonstrates a blended training patbway of both apprenticeship and accredited education. <br />2 "Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAL)" means the independent, non-profit <br />3 organization recognized by the United States Department of Education as the accrediting <br />4 agency of the direct -entry midwifery, institutions and programs. <br />5 "North American Registry of Midwives (HARM)" means the national certifying bodes <br />6 Certified Professional Midwives. <br />7 "Portfolio evaluation process (PEP)" is an apprenticeship model educational process that <br />8 includes verification of knowledge and skills by qualified NARM preceptors. Completion of <br />9 this process qualifies an applicant to sit for the NARM written examination. <br />10 "Practice of certified midwifery" means midwifery as practiced by certified midwives (CMs), <br />11 encompasses the independent provision of care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the <br />12 postpartum period; sexual and reproductive health; gynecologic health; and family planning <br />13 services, including preconception care. Certified Midwives also provide primary care for <br />14 individuals from adolescence throughout the lifespan as well as care for the healthy newborn <br />15 and infant during the first 28 days of life. <br />16 "Practice of certified professional midwifery" means midwifery as practiced by certified <br />17 professional midwives (CPMs), encompasses the independent provision of care during <br />18 pregnancy, childbirth,and the postpartum period; sexual and reproductive health; gynecologic <br />19 health; and family planning services, including preconception care. Certified Professional <br />20 Midwives also provide primary care for the healthy newborn and infant during the first 12 <br />21 weeks of life. <br />22 "Student midwife" means a person who is enrolled in an ACME accredited school, MEAC <br />23 midwifery educational program; or directly working under a NARM registered preceptor on <br />
