COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 638 24 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FEED HAWAII <br />DBA KOHALA FOOD HUB FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE NORTH KOHALA <br />FARM TO FAMILY PROJECT. <br />WHEREAS, the Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food Hub is a 5 01 (c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization whose mission is to grow a sustainable regional food system by providing essential <br />services and resources for local food producers and increasing community access to fresh, <br />healthy food; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kohala Food Hub's Veggie Rx program serves households that <br />demonstrate financial need as defined as having an income 200% or lower than the Federal <br />Poverty Guidelines for Hawaii, and those household's with people suffering chronic health <br />conditions that would be improved by eating more fruits and vegetables; and <br />WHEREAS, the Veggie Rx program will end on August 31, 2024, due to the end of the <br />USDA GusNIP funding cycle; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Kohala Farm -to -Family Project will serve as a bridge to continue <br />the Veggie Rx program, by providing free produce from local farmers on a bi-weekly basis to <br />approximately 200 individuals residing in 50 qualifying households, until more private, state, or <br />federal funding for health food access can be secured; and <br />WHEREAS, the Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food Hub is requesting funds to purchase <br />local produce such as fruits and vegetables and produce bags, plastic bags, paper bags, and twist <br />ties for the North Kohala Farm -to -Family Project; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports programs that provide <br />community projects in a drug- and alcohol -free environment such as the Kohala Farm -to -Family <br />Project; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAFI that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food Hub for expenses <br />related to the North Kohala Farm -to -Family Project. <br />
