COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 635 24 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FRIENDS OF THE FUTURE FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE FRIENDLY FRIDGE RESCUE FOOD PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the Friends of the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to facilitate a vision of lokahi among the diverse people of Hawaii, encouraging each person to contribute their deepest values, to create shared visions, and to continuously improve our communities; and WHEREAS, the Friendly Fridge Rescue Food Program provides a community -accessible refrigerator that is centrally located in Kamuela to provide free food to anyone experiencing food insecurity, which is accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year; and WHEREAS, volunteers for the program pick up donated food from stores, restaurants, and bakeries, then package and deliver the food items to the Friendly Fridge; and WHEREAS, to ensure that the Friendly Fridge is stocked daily with food, oftentimes bread, fresh fruits, vegetables, canned goods, and shelf -stable foods are purchased to supplement donated foods; and WHEREAS, the Friends of the Future is requesting funds to purchase supplemental food items, paper bags, clear wrap, and fuel for the Friendly Fridge Rescue Food Program; and WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports programs that provide community projects in a drug- and alcohol -free environment such as the Friendly Fridge Rescue Food Program; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Friends of the Future for expenses relating to the Friendly Fridge Rescue Food Program.
