COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 648 24 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE NORTH KOHALA COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE KOHALA UNUPA'A PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the North Kohala Community Resource Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide local support, funding, and education for successful projects that benefit the community of North Kohala; and WHEREAS, the North Kohala Community Resource Center proudly sponsors Kohala Unupa'a, which is an after school diva -based learning and stewardship program that provides North Kohala students with opportunities to engage in scientific enquiry and apply place -based environmental management practices that care for resources from mauka to makai; and WHEREAS, Kohala Unupa'a: Mauka to Makai Watchers and Caretakers, serves elementary and middle school students in North Kohala and Kailapa Hawaiian Homestead in Kawaihae, whose communities are geographically isolated, rural, traditionally agricultural, and have rich histories of ahupua'a management through traditional gathering, fishing, and farming practices; and WHEREAS, as the fiscal sponsor for the Kohala Unupa'a program, the North Kohala Community Resource Center is requesting funds for a website designer and to purchase a computer; and WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports programs that provide community projects in a drug- and alcohol -free environment such as the Kohala Unupa'a program; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAPI that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to the North Kohala Community Resource Center for expenses relating to the Kohala Unupa'a program.
