JMtY Of <br />IZ <br />COUNTY OF HAWAIJ STATE OF HAWAIJ <br />TE';OF <br />RESOLUTION NO. 659 24 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HONOKAA <br />HONGWANJI MISSION FOR ITS "FEEDING OUR KEIKI AND KUPUNA" <br />PROGRAM. <br />WHEREAS, the Honokaa Hongwanji Mission (HHM) is a subordinate of the Honpa <br />Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii, a 5 01 (c)(3) nonprofit, umbrella organization for over 30 Jodo <br />Shinshu temples in Hawaii, offering spiritual growth, learning, and service to community <br />through temples, schools, volunteers, and charitable organizations across the State of Hawaii; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, for the past five years, HHM, through its Peace Committee and volunteers, <br />have coordinated a "Feeding our Keiki and Kupuna" (FKK) program, providing hot meals on <br />Fridays as well as distributing over 4,000 pounds of groceries, produce, and proteins each week <br />to over 450 keiki, kupuna, adults, and shut-ins in the Honoka'a community and beyond; and <br />WHEREAS, the FKK program has been successful in improving the health and well-being <br />of the community by reducing food insecurity and instilling a sense of peace; and <br />WHEREAS, HHM is requesting funds to assist with the purchase of proteins, produce, <br />and canned goods for its FKK program; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the program objectives of the Department of Research and <br />Development is to positively impact community well-being, equity, cohesion, capacity, and <br />empowerment; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAPI that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District I will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to the Honokaa Hongwanji Mission for its <br />"Feeding our Keiki and Kupuna" program. <br />
