COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3 24 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAVI KEIKI <br />MUSEUM FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE COORDINATION AND <br />FACILITATION OF THE K-12 EDUCATION WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT <br />PROJECT. <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br />mission is to develop island science literacy, inspire curiosity and innovation, and spark a <br />lifelong passion for learning through interactive exhibits and engaging activities for children <br />during their foundational years; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is building on the work initiated at the 2024 <br />Sustainability Summit from the Green Workforce Development and the County of Hawaii <br />Youth Congress working groups to create space for dialogue where educators and the <br />educational community can orchestrate ways to prioritize solutions to critical concerns in <br />creating a sustainable education system; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is working in conjunction with educators across <br />Hawaii Island to coordinate and facilitate the K-12 Education Workforce Development project, <br />which will consist of five talk -story sessions for educators to share innovative approaches to <br />bridge the gap between limited educational resources and local challenges; and <br />WHEREAS, the sessions will be held in Ka'5, Hilo, Kona, Hdwl, and Puna between <br />October 2024 and May 2025; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is requesting funds to cover expenses for the <br />five sessions, including printed session materials and office supplies, food and non-alcoholic <br />beverages for participants, and travel mileage for two facilitators; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports innovations that <br />help to balance Hawaii Island's economic, social, community, and environmental well-being, <br />including opportunities to implement strategic actions as set forth in the State of Hawaii 2050 <br />Sustainability Plan; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District I will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawaii Keiki Museum for expenses relating <br />to the coordination and facilitation of the K-12 Education Workforce Development project. <br />
