Of NIY COUNTY OF HAWAVI STATE OF HAWAVI RESOLUTION NO. 712 24 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA TO SUPPORT ITS FOOD SECURITY PROGRAM. WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer service organization whose mission is to provide community resources to maintain a safe and healthy community through environmental education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land trusting-, and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna's Food Security Program is a successful collaboration with various homeowner and community associations in Lower Puna that have established backyard gardens, fruit orchards, and community gardens; and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna plans to refurbish a mobile military kitchen to cook and freeze-dry fresh produce that are grown and harvested through these collaborations, extending the shelf life and enhancing household food security; and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is seeking funds for a project coordinator to renovate the mobile kitchen for certification, the purchase of cooking utensils, lighting, a freeze dryer, bag sealer, and food processing equipment, as well as auxiliary energy costs to operate a donated fridge and freezer; and WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports sustainable agricultural practices that increase consumption of local agricultural and value-added products by expanding marketing and education at the local, national, or international levels; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna to support its Food Security Program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
