W <br />.411 OF of <br />�jY <br />r <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI `I k= STATE OF HAWAI `I <br />�r� O►�N�'Yk <br />RESOLUTION NO. 724 24 <br />A RESOLUTION AWARDING A PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE, AND NATURAL <br />RESOURCES PRESERVATION MAINTENANCE FUND STEWARDSHIP GRANT TO <br />HO`OMALU KAT. <br />WHEREAS, Section 10-15 of the Charter of the County of Hawaii (hereinafter <br />"Charter") provides for a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund <br />(hereinafter "Preservation Fund") to acquire lands and easements within the County for public <br />outdoor recreation, education, the preservation of land and coastal areas, and the protection of <br />natural resources; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 10-16 of the Charter establishes a Public Access, Open Space, and <br />Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund (hereinafter "Maintenance Fund") to be used <br />in part for a stewardship grant program, in which 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations can apply for <br />and receive grant-in-aid funding for stewardship projects directly related to public safety <br />maintenance and preservation of lands and easements acquired using the Preservation Fund; and <br />WHEREAS, Ho`omalu Ka`u is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to <br />perpetuate, protect, and conserve the lands, health, knowledge, culture, and history of Ka`u and <br />its people; and <br />WHEREAS, Ho`omalu Ka`u applied for a Maintenance Fund stewardship grant to <br />maintain a healthy stewardship of the land identified by Tax Map Key No. (3) 9-5-012:005, also <br />known as Kahua `Olohti, which is situated in the district of Ka`ir and was acquired using the <br />Preservation Fund as authorized by Resolution No. 287-15, Draft 2; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-217 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, <br />as amended), the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission, <br />during its meeting on September 11, 2023, recommended that this stewardship grant be awarded; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, fluids awarded by this stewardship grant will be used to support ongoing <br />efforts to manage and maintain the land for traditional cultural uses and practices; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAIII that, in <br />accordance with Section 10-16(h) of the Charter, a stewardship grant is hereby awarded to <br />Ho`omalu Ka`u in the amount of $25,500 out of and from the Public Access, Open Space, and <br />Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund and for the proposes hereinabove described. <br />
