Kimball, Council Member <br />Council District 1 <br />District 1 Appointment to the County of Hawaii Youth Commission: <br />Ulunuiokamamalu Killion <br />I am pleased to introduce Ulunuiokamamalu Killion as Council District 1's appointment to the <br />County of Hawaii Youth Commission. <br />Kamamalu, as she is affectionately known, is a lineal descendant of the Kanaka`ole `ohana, <br />being the great granddaughter of Aunty Edith Kanaka`ole. A sophomore at Ka `Umeke Kd'eo <br />Public Charter School, Kamamalu is exceptionally versed in Hawaiian language and culture and <br />is active in her community. <br />Currently, Kamamalu is an `opio delegate for Hui Aloha `Aina o Hilo, a recent delegate at the <br />`Aha `Opio for the Council of Native Hawaiian Advancements, her school's class representative <br />for both 91h and 1 Oth grade, and a volunteer of many events, including the planning committee for <br />Ku `Anuenue and its recent Inclusive from, and with the International Va`a Federation 2024 <br />World Sprints held in Hilo, to name a few. <br />I believe Kamamalu's cultural connection and interests position her to be an impactful voice for <br />her peers, and a beneficial member on the County of Hawaii Youth Commission for a 2-year <br />term ending January 1, 2027. <br />Please place this communication on the December 18, 2024 Council agenda. <br />HK:dbk <br />Hawaii County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />Comm.
