V Of <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII - _• <br />�f <br />�rF OF MF'� <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO BIRD AND BEE <br />HAWAI`I ANIMAL SANCTUARY TO SUPPORT ITS HONEY BEE EDUCATION <br />' _: i E_ U_ . <br />WHEREAS, Bird and Bee Hawaii Animal Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is <br />dedicated to providing a safe haven for animals and honey bees through protection, <br />rehabilitation, and education, fostering a harmonious coexistence on Hawaii Island; and <br />WHEREAS, honey bees are vital to Hawai`i's environment and agricultural systems, <br />playing a crucial role in pollination and contributing to the sustainability of local ecosystems and <br />food production; and <br />WHEREAS, the Honey Bee Education program informs and educates Hawaii Island <br />residents about the importance of honey bees, promoting awareness and advocacy for pollinator <br />protection through accessible and engaging educational efforts; and <br />WHEREAS, from January to June 2025, the program will host informational pop -ups at <br />local farmers' markets, deliver community presentations, and offer virtual classes, reaching <br />diverse audiences to encourage sustainable beekeeping and support local agriculture; and <br />WHEREAS, Bird and Bee Hawaii Animal Sanctuary is seeking funds for honey <br />samplings, the production and distribution of educational brochures, rental fees for space at local <br />farmers' markets, and subscription costs for an online conferencing platform (Zoom); and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports sustainable <br />agricultural practices that increase consumption of local agricultural and value-added products <br />by expanding marketing and education at the local, national, or international levels; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to Bird and Bee Hawaii Animal Sanctuary to <br />support its Honey Bee Education program. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
