JN<vfoF ��+Y <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII •_ <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />70 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAI`I DISTRICT 4 <br />LITTLE LEAGUE, INC., TO PURCHASE A PORTABLE PITCHING MOUND FOR <br />LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL GAMES IN WEST HAWAI`I. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii District 4 Little League, Inc., is a subordinate organization and <br />chartered member of Little League Baseball, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br />mission is to teach life lessons that positively impact youth and build strong relationships <br />through the values of community, fun, inclusion, integrity, and teamwork; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii District 4 Little League, Inc., provides education, guidance, and <br />direction to the leagues and volunteers and organizes island -wide tournaments that promote the <br />growth of Little League programs, which gives all children the opportunity to play and possibly <br />advance to state, regional, and national levels; and <br />WHEREAS, a portable pitching mound is vital for Little League baseball as it ensures <br />proper pitching distances for different age groups, supports training and skill development by <br />simulating regulation mounds, enhances safety with a cushioned surface, and complies with <br />league rules without permanent infrastructure changes; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii District 4 Little League, Inc., is in need of a portable pitching <br />mound that is 18 feet in diameter to be used for all Little League baseball games at the Old Kona <br />Airport Beach Park in West Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii District 4 Little League, Inc., is requesting funds to purchase a <br />portable pitching mound and to cover the freight charge to ship it from the mainland; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation works in partnership with <br />organizations such as the Hawaii District 4 Little League, Inc., and is supportive of its efforts to <br />provide recreational activities for youth in West Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Hawaii District 4 Little League, Inc., to purchase a <br />portable pitching mound for Little League baseball games in West Hawaii. <br />
