Jr(V^OF h,1 <br />Cif•'= . i� <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI`I STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />•i�'' M� MOF�,�� <br />7TE OF•N�'� <br />RESOLUTION NO. 8 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAI`I ANIMAL <br />KULEANA ALLIANCE FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS FIVE-DAY DISASTER <br />RESPONSE TRAINING: ANIMAL SEARCH AND RESCUE. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Animal Kuleana Alliance (HAKA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization whose mission is to support Hawai`i's communities before, during, and after natural <br />disasters and emergencies by offering services that support the whole `ohana, including pets and <br />animals; and <br />WHEREAS, HAKA is hosting a five-day disaster response training on animal search <br />and rescue, which is a comprehensive program designed to equip first responders and community <br />volunteers with the critical skills needed to rescue and care for animals during emergencies; and <br />WHEREAS, the animal search and rescue training will be held February 24-28, 2025, at <br />two locations in Hilo for indoor class training and outdoor field training, which will include <br />hands-on instruction in technical animal rescue, water crossing, ropes and knots, and large and <br />small animal emergency sheltering; and <br />WHEREAS, HAKA is requesting funds to help cover a portion of the venue fees for the <br />indoor and outdoor training sites during the five-day disaster response training on animal search <br />and rescue; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Fire Department's mission is to provide exceptional, all - <br />hazards emergency services to the residents and visitors of Hawaii Island, and the rescue and <br />recovery of animals, including pets, during disasters or emergencies is in keeping with that <br />mission; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Hawaii Fire <br />Department to provide a grant to Hawaii Animal Kuleana Alliance for expenses relating to its <br />five-day Disaster Response Training: Animal Search and Rescue. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
