JNZYfOF M�jY <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />1TE OF'MF'J, <br />RESOLUTION NO. 81 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KA LA`I A `EHU TO <br />ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE OLA KA `I KONA EVENT IN WEST <br />HAWAI`I. <br />WHEREAS, Ka La`i a `Ehu is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to <br />contribute to the growth and development of Ke Kula `O `Ehunuikaimalino, a Hawaiian <br />language school located in Kealakekua; and <br />WHEREAS, Ke Kula `O `Ehunuikaimalino has 284 students, kindergarten to twelfth <br />grade, and is committed to perpetuating the language, customs, traditions, skills, spirituality, and <br />character of the Hawaiian people; and <br />WHEREAS, Ka La`i a `Ehu is working in partnership with Ke Kula `O `Ehunuikaimalino <br />to host Ola Ka `I Kona, a free community event to be held on March 1, 2025, at the Keauhou <br />Shopping Center, to celebrate Mahina `Olelo Hawaii (Hawaiian Language Month), by promoting <br />the use of Hawaiian language; and <br />WHEREAS, this event will include founders, graduates, and kumu of Ke Kula `O <br />`Ehunuikaimalino, Kamehameha Preschool, and other schools within the West Hawaii Complex <br />area; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ola Ka `I Kona event will also honor Keauhou, and Hawaii He`e Holua, <br />with a modern day slide and free keiki activities regarding Hawaiian culture and language, and <br />will include student performances, project displays and vendors; and <br />WHEREAS, Ka La`i a `Ehu is requesting funds to assist with expenses for sound system <br />services, cotton candy, face painting, modern day He`e Holua, and other keiki activity materials <br />and supplies for this event; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth <br />programs that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol -free environment, such as the <br />Ola Ka `I Kona event; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Liquor Control to provide a grant to Ka La`i a `Ehu to assist with expenses related to the Ola Ka <br />`I Kona event in West Hawaii. <br />
