Ms. Fukushima said yes, she understands that the community <br />doesn't want to see that level of development and that there needs to be more work done to find a <br />balance on what would be appropriate for that area. <br />Member Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder's final question was regarding Mauna Kea telescopes. <br />Ms. Fukushima said that she wants to see the Thirty Meter Telescope developed responsibly <br />with respectful management and that she believes her thoughts are aligned with Mayor Alameda's <br />views on this controversial subject. <br />Committee Members Ashley Kierkiewicz and Michelle Galimba spoke in favor of the <br />appointment. <br />Committee Chair Jenn Kagiwada mentioned that Ms. Fukushima lives in her neighborhood and <br />stated that she appreciates how willing Ms. Fukushima is to do the reading and background <br />work necessary to hold this position. <br />Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 7, Section 6-7.3 of the Hawaii County Charter, members of the <br />Windward Planning Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the <br />Council. <br />Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the <br />purpose and intent of Communication No. 103, and recommends confirmation of the <br />appointment of JoNelle M.
