REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS DATE: February 4, 2025 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawaii TIME: 9:00 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 1=4W0111 I,• 1 Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred Communication No. 105, reports as follows: Communication No. 105, transmitted by Mayor C. Kimo Alameda, dated January 14, 2025, requests the Council's review and confirmation of Gene M. Nakashima to the Liquor Commission. Executive Assistant to the Mayor Micah Alameda was present in the Hilo Chambers to introduce Mr. Nakashima, who was also present in the Hilo Chambers, to the Committee. Committee Member Holeka Inaba wanted to mention the importance that the Department of Liquor Control plays in supporting the Project Graduation events that high schools put on for their graduates around the island and asked him to please support that funding. Committee Member Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder asked if Mr. Nakashima was a United States citizen. Mr. Nakashima said yes. Mr. Alameda said that was a technical issue on the form and they were working to correct it. Committee Members Rebecca Villegas and Dennis "Fresh" Onishi spoke in favor of the appointment. Pursuant to Article VII, Chapter 3, Section 7-3.2 of the Hawaii County Charter, members of the Liquor Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 105, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Gene M.
