COUNTY OF HAWAI`I <br />STATE OF HAWAVI <br />RESOLUTION NO. '., 5 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PAHOA LAVA <br />ZONE MUSEUM TO SUPPORT THE HALE HALAWAI O PUNA CULTURAL <br />ENTREPRENEUR HUB IN PAHOA. <br />WHEREAS, the Pahoa Lava Zone Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br />mission is to provide public, historic, scientific, and educational information to tourists and local <br />residents regarding the geology and impacts of Hawaii Island's volcanic events for the benefit <br />of the Pahoa community and to promote regenerative tourism in the Lower Puna District; and <br />WHEREAS, the Pahoa Lava Zone Museum champions revitalization efforts as well as <br />youth and workforce development within downtown Pahoa and its surrounding communities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Pahoa Lava Zone Museum is supporting the launch of the Hale Halawai <br />O Puna Cultural Entrepreneur Hub on May 3, 2025, uniting cultural practitioners, artisans, and <br />community through art, food, and music in Pahoa Village; and <br />WHEREAS, the Pahoa Lava Zon Museum is requesting funds for cultural practitioners, <br />rental fees for sound and music systems, porta potties, and Coleman tents for cultural workshops; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports programs and <br />community initiatives that engage international, national, and local partners to promote and share <br />the Native Hawaiian culture and history with Hawaii Island residents and visitors; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to the Pahoa Lava Zone Museum to support the <br />Hale Halawai O Puna Cultural Entrepreneur Hub in Pahoa. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
