e,���' OF M i��•. <br />COUNTY OF HAWAVI +(� =t STATE OF HAWAVI <br />+Po'� N� MO �••��\ <br />,TF•OF •NF'� <br />RESOLUTION NO. 9-9 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PACIFIC <br />TSUNAMI MUSEUM FOR SALARIES, TRAINING, AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION. <br />WHEREAS, the Pacific Tsunami Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br />mission is to provide education and awareness to ensure that no one ever again dies in Hawaii <br />due to a tsunami; and <br />WHEREAS, the Pacific Tsunami Museum's unique work in the community is critical to <br />providing tsunami awareness, protecting the stories of survivors, and honoring those we lost to <br />prior tsunamis; and <br />WHEREAS, the Pacific Tsunami Museum has recently lost some of its long-term donor <br />support due to their passing and is facing a series of extensive and necessary renovations; and <br />WHEREAS, the Pacific Tsunami Museum is seeking additional funding support to help <br />bridge a temporary gap in their operational budget for salaries, field training for docents and <br />volunteers, and community education while they work to obtain alternative, long-term funding; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Pacific Tsunami Museum is requesting funds to support the salaries of <br />three staff positions until April, as well as funds for a van rental for field training at various <br />tsunami sites and to create a recording/videography of co-founder Dr. Walter Dudley sharing his <br />knowledge of each museum exhibit to educate the community on our history and tsunami safety <br />awareness; and <br />WHEREAS, this project falls within the Department of Research and Development's <br />mission to support community programs that balance economic, social, and community priorities <br />in Hawaii County; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to the Pacific Tsunami Museum for salaries, <br />training, and community education. <br />
