KawainuiStream has been highly rated for its relatively undisturbed, natural conditions, Endemic freshwater <br />and brackish species are becoming increasingly rare due to stream channelization, pollution, water diversions, <br />development activities, competition from invasive, exotic species, etc, Kavvainu\ Stream still appears to be <br />haven for endemic freshwater species, such as the hThTwai (Neritina granosa), Vopu, (five endemic species in <br />need of study), '6paekala'ole (Atyoida bisulcate), and Orangeblack Hawaiian Damselfly (Megalagrion <br />xonbhonie/os). The beach |senimportant feeding ground for the Hawaiian hawksbill sea turtle (Erebnqrhekn <br />outside of the KawainuiStream gulch onmore gently sloped terrain are approximately E0-acres of plantings of <br />African Mahogany (Khaya senegalensis), Teak (Tectonugrandis), Honduran Mahogany (Swietenict <br />n/ucnzohylla),Queensland Maple (Nindeujobruyleyono),and Pheasantm/wnd(Sennosionneo).The plantings <br />were started in 2000 and extend all the way from the old M5malahoa Hwy. to the ocean bluffs on both sides of <br />the stream. <br />r <br />DNK: <br />2-7-011:001 <br />4O.3acres. <br />North side vf <br />Kavva|nu\ <br />Stream <br />TK4K: ~- <br />2-7-00:027 <br />40.89acres. <br />South side mf <br />Kaw/a|nu| <br />Stream <br />2 <br />
