• The community is extremely supportive of this acquisition and has representation from a wide - <br />range of backgrounds and perspectives. <br />• Stewardship would involve a diverse range of invested groups and individuals, serving as an <br />opportunity for enhanced connections and relationships that would further deepen the sense of <br />community and enrich development of a place -based community management plan, <br />• Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail, Na Ala Hele State Trails, and the grassroots Huaka'i La trail <br />crew are all supportive and willing to help with stewardship and/or management <br />decisions/oversight as it supports the needs of the greater community of Ka'ohe, <br />• The property falls adjacent to a Kuleana property with known burials present and provides <br />additional opportunities for descendent -guided access that is appropriate and sensitive to the <br />,Native Hawaiian community. <br />• The property is an intact representation of the greater cultural landscape of South Kona, which is <br />documented to comprise an extensive and densely -inhabited ancient and historic village network. <br />The protection of such amidst a rapidly developing coastline is critical and provides opportunities to <br />demonstrate an alternative to privatized landscapes, inaccessible to the local community. <br />WEAKNESSES <br />• No major weaknesses noted. <br />CONCERNS OR OTHER THOUGHTS <br />The amount of community support for the acquisition of this property shown on the site visit was <br />impressive, and the drive of the community to navigate this process is exceptional as well. This property is <br />a crucial component to the South Kona community and the natural and cultural resources within, <br />Roy Santana speaks to the history of the coastal area along the Ala Loa Aupuni. <br />Report submitted by L.
