COUNTY OF HAWAI`I i STATE OF HAWAII <br />trE cs•Nr•� <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1-5 a 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO POHAKU PELEMAKA <br />FOR ITS HO`OWEHE I KA NIU SUMMER CAMP. <br />WHEREAS, P6haku Pelemaka is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to <br />protect, perpetuate, and enhance the intrinsic qualities of lower Puna, the well-being of Native <br />Hawaiians, and the heritage of Hawaii Island by working in partnership with agencies and <br />organizations in the public and private sectors; and <br />WHEREAS, P6haku Pelemaka will be hosting its Ho`owehe I Ka Niu summer camp on <br />July 3-6, 2025, at Ka`akepa, Puna, which will provide educational and cultural opportunities for <br />youth in the community of Puna makai; and <br />WHEREAS, Ho`owehe I Ka Niu summer camp promotes the transmission of <br />intergenerational knowledge from kupuna to keiki, with a major focus on the niu plant and how <br />to use, protect, and care for it; and <br />WHEREAS, P6haku Pelemaka is requesting funds for stipends for Hawaiian cultural <br />practitioners, food and beverages, and the purchase of tents, tables, and chairs; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth <br />programs, such as Ho`owehe I Ka Niu, that are alcohol -free and drug -free; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Liquor Control to provide a grant to P6haku Pelemaka for its Ho`owehe I Ka Niu. summer camp. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
