J�ZIf of N1�t <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />1TE �F'Npf� <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />148 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE ROTARY CLUB <br />OF SOUTH HILO FOUNDATION FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE CREATION <br />OF A PEACE POLE TO BE INSTALLED AT KALAKAUA PARK. <br />WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of South Hilo Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization that provides service to others, promotes integrity, and advances world <br />understanding, goodwill, and peace through fellowship and community activities; and <br />WHEREAS, Peace Poles are an internationally recognized symbol of peace that <br />originated in Japan after the atomic bombing that occurred in World War II and serve as a <br />reminder that we must never repeat those atrocities and to always strive to make "Peace Prevail <br />on Earth"; and <br />WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of South Hilo Foundation is requesting funds for the <br />purchase, engraving, and installation of a granite, eight -foot Peace Pole at Kaldkaua Park to <br />recognize the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan; and <br />WHEREAS, funds are needed to secure these services in this fiscal year for the <br />unveiling event that will take place at the end of August 2025, which is in the following fiscal <br />year; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide <br />variety of facilities and programs to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the <br />cultural uniqueness of Hawai`i's rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Rotary Club of South Hilo Foundation for <br />expenses relating to the creation of a Peace Pole to be installed at Kaldkaua Park. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
