J�ZIf of N1�t COUNTY OF HAWAII 1TE �F'Npf� STATE OF HAWAII 148 25 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE ROTARY CLUB OF SOUTH HILO FOUNDATION FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE CREATION OF A PEACE POLE TO BE INSTALLED AT KALAKAUA PARK. WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of South Hilo Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides service to others, promotes integrity, and advances world understanding, goodwill, and peace through fellowship and community activities; and WHEREAS, Peace Poles are an internationally recognized symbol of peace that originated in Japan after the atomic bombing that occurred in World War II and serve as a reminder that we must never repeat those atrocities and to always strive to make "Peace Prevail on Earth"; and WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of South Hilo Foundation is requesting funds for the purchase, engraving, and installation of a granite, eight -foot Peace Pole at Kaldkaua Park to recognize the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan; and WHEREAS, funds are needed to secure these services in this fiscal year for the unveiling event that will take place at the end of August 2025, which is in the following fiscal year; and WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide variety of facilities and programs to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of Hawai`i's rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Rotary Club of South Hilo Foundation for expenses relating to the creation of a Peace Pole to be installed at Kaldkaua Park. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
