REQUEST: <br /> This is a request to enter into a 5-year agreement with the University of Hawaii at Manoa for the purpose of <br /> sharing half of the cost to fund two additional Extension Agents positions in Hawaii County. The positions <br /> will cover Indigenous Crops/East Hawaii Master Gardeners and East Hawaii Livestock. Payment to the <br /> State will be for half of the salary and benefits for the two Extension Agents. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> Department of of Research and Development commissioned a contractor to conduct a survey of agricultural <br /> producers on their needs to increase and improve their production and businesses. Within 24 hours, the <br /> contractor received 268 responses. Increasing the number of Extension Agents to provide technical <br /> assistance was one of the top responses.
