REQUEST: <br /> The Department of Public Works Highways Division is requesting a resolution authorizing the payment of <br /> funds of a later fiscal year and of more than one fiscal year for a multi-year lease of four(4) grapple trucks for <br /> the Districts of South Hilo, North and South Kona, North and South Kohala and Puna. The lease to <br /> purchase would be for a period of no more than five (5) years. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The grapple trucks will be used islandwide to assist DPW Highways personnel with performing regular <br /> maintenance like picking up roadside debris, i.e..tires, large appliances, furniture, etc., clearing drainage <br /> systems, trash removal, emptying of County trash receptacles and other duties that will make operations <br /> more efficient with a truck equipped with an extended arm and loader capabilities. <br /> The addition of grapple trucks to Highways operations and inventory will improve productivity and efficiency and <br /> aid in the safety of personnel. The grapple trucks will be used for trash and debris removal, clearing of flood <br /> channels and drainage systems, and from other areas with limited access. <br /> This lease is for a period of no more than five (5) years. The total purchase price for all four(4) grapple trucks is <br /> $1,249,416.96.
