REQUEST: <br /> The Department of Public Works Highways Division is requesting a resolution authorizing the payment of <br /> funds of a later fiscal year and of more than one fiscal year for a multi-year lease of one (1)excavator with <br /> wheels for the District of South Hilo and shared with other districts as needed. The lease to pu'rchase would <br /> be for a period of no more than five (5) years. <br /> • <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The excavator with wheels will be used islandwide to assist DPW Highways personnel with construction, <br /> resurfacing, and maintenance projects. Currently, DPW Highways has excavator with tracks that cannot <br /> travel on roadways limiting access and operations along roadsides. An excavator with wheels and mulching <br /> unit will provide districts the ability to trim large areas of overgrown vegetation without damaging shoulders <br /> and roadways. The additional excavator with wheels will increase maintenance productivity and operations <br /> throughout the island. <br /> This lease is for a period of no more than five (5)years. The purchase price is $311,245.94. The estimated <br /> lease cost is approximately $5,187.43 per month or$62,249.16 annually.
