To inform and inspire the general
public about the range and quality of dance on the Big Island, it has invited eight studios from around the island and two invited guest performing groups who have
recently garnered national attention showcasing a hybrid genre which integrates Hawaiian and contemporary dance languages: Peter Rockford-Fspiritu's Tau Dance
Theater and Kea Kapahua's UH-Hilo Dance Ensemble. The project not only aspires to further the general public's knowledge and participation in dance, but to provide a
forum for collaboration and connection between the invited dance groups. The goal is that this performance will stimulate a more vibrant culture and arts and dance
community.
*47.501(c)(3) Mission Statement
The mission of the Big Island Dance Council is to develop, foster and promote quaity dancing on the Big island and to contribute to the dance and movement education
of the community at large.
*48. It is in recognition of BIDCs long-term efforts to perpetuate the art the dance that the
organization wanted to bring back this celebration of dance through the showcasing of difference genres with dancers from children to adults to a new generation.
