<br />Founded in 1983 as a program of the Island of Hawai'! YMCA, and becoming an independent organization in 2006, Ku'ikahi Mediation Center has a 42-year track record
<br />of providing conflict prevention and resolution services to our diverse communities. We are the sole non-profit mediation center serving East Hawai7, and 1 of only 5 in
<br />the state. Our purpose is "Finding Solutions, Growing Peace." Hawal'i Island leaders, employers, employees, and entrepreneurs need more local opportunities for top-
<br />notch training, especially in the areas of conflict prevention and resolution. Investing in skills -building at the front end helps prevent and mitigate problems at the back
<br />end. Effective collaborative processes, communication strategies, and conflict management skills are critical for citizens, since our county and state are facing complex
<br />societal issues like global pandemics, climate change, and aging populations. In order to deal with Increasing trends like polarization and business disruptions from new
<br />technologies, citizens need to work smarter together to problem -solve sticky situations. This CRF will be used to conduct a "Conflict Prevention & Resolution Training
<br />Series" during FY 2025-2026. These 10 half -day workshops may Include: 1) "Resilience at Work" with Ami Kun!mura.2) "Reclaiming Personal Sovereignty in Moments of
<br />Conflict' with Shelby Morrison 3) "Civility in the Workplace" with Diane Petropulos 4) "Master of the Storm": Navigating Misunderstanding, Disagreement, Even Conflict"
<br />with Athena Lou & Eric Smith 5) "Enhancing Workplace Dynamics Through DISC Profiles" with Arliss Dudley -Cash 6) "How to Effectively Work Together as a Non -Profit
<br />Board" with Julie Mitchell 7) "Meetings that Work" with Athena Lou & Eric Smith 8) "Respect In the Workplace & The Power of Stories" with Anne Marie Smoke & Owen

<br />Ku'ikahl is conducting the project This training series is designed to develop individuals, teams, and leaders in public sectors (county, state, and federal government);
<br />private sectors (small, medium, and large businesses); and non-profit sectors (health care, human services, and others). The training series offers unique opportunities
<br />to local public, private, and non-profit workforces and volunteers to obtain world -class trainings: 1) from highly skilled trainers, 2) on Island, 3) at affordable tuition rates
<br />(including Ku'!kah! scholarships), 4) in specialized subject areas, and 5) offered nowhere else In Hawai'!. We know of no similar local projects sponsored by other
<br />organizations. UH-Hilo's Center for Community Engagement has ceased offering non-credit classes in professional development Hawai'I Community College EDvance is
<br />only offering online asynchronous courses. Ku'ikahi Is filling a training gap in locally provided workplace and community development.

<br />Public Purpose of Requested Funds
<br />Per §2-138 of the Hawari County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the County may grant an award only if the proposed program or service provides direct public
<br />benefits and fulfills a public purpose within the County.

<br />something new and useful -Goal 4: At least 95% of trainees would recommend the training to others SUPPLEMENTAL: Challenges and opportunities facing Hawai9 Island
<br />Include: recovering from the coronavirus pandemic, preventing eviction and homelessness, high cost of living and doing business, renewable energies, natural disasters,
<br />and land use. Some of these challenges/opportunities are centered on contentious issues, like astronomy on Mauna Kea. Well -trained local leaders and citizens —with
<br />dynamic and innovative ways to respond to difficult dialogues, disagreements, and disputes --support a stronger Hawal'i County community and economy. Our agency
<br />helps individuals, families, schools, organizations, businesses, and others in Hawari County to find creative solutions to challenging situations. In the area of education,
<br />we have a multi -year track record of both developing and implementing successful in-house trainings, community workshops, and professional development seminars.
<br />These educational programs have attracted Island -wide and repeat participation from the private, public, and non-profit sectors. In the past 13 years, we have
<br />conducted over 500 educational programs for adults and youth. TRAINING TESTIMONIAL: "I'm already using the skills gained from the Basic Mediation Training in my
<br />one-to-one conversations with students in crisis or helping students resolve conflicts with faculty, staff, and/or other students. The Division of Student Affairs is already
<br />seeing a return on the investment. These skills are so incredible and valuable!"
