COUNTY OF HAWAI`I <br />STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />RESOLUTION NO. 309 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII FARMERS <br />UNION FOUNDATION FOR ITS 2025 STATE ANNUAL CONVENTION. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Farmers Union Foundation (HFUF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization that advocates for the sovereign rights of family farmers, ranchers, and fishers to <br />create regenerative and sustainable agricultural communities that benefit the people of Hawaii <br />through education, cooperation, and legislation; and <br />WHEREAS, HFUF has chosen "Mahi`ai Makahiki" as this year's theme and will honor <br />the vital roles that farmers and food producers play in sustaining communities as they bring <br />together mahi`ai from across pae `aina and host the Hawaii Farmers Union Foundation's State <br />Convention on October 25-26, 2025, at Kahalu`u Ma Kai in Keauhou, Kona; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports sustainable <br />agriculture practices by promoting educational opportunities designed to build skills and capacity <br />through farming while also helping to strengthen communities, the economy, and the <br />environment; and <br />WHEREAS, HFUF is requesting funds to help defray the cost of food, audio visual <br />equipment rental, and technical support, which will serve a public purpose benefiting, improving, <br />or promoting culture and the arts, educational concerns, and the public health and welfare of the <br />people and the environment; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in <br />accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as <br />amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 are hereby transferred to the <br />Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaii Farmers Union <br />Foundation for the expenses and purposes identified in "Exhibit A," a copy of which is attached <br />hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: <br />
