The day targets female students from East Hawai' i middle schools and their parents with inspiring curriculum,
hands-on activities, and local role models working in STEM careers. Scheduled for January 31, 2026, the free day supports
4-8 graders to pursue STEM throughout middle and high school, then pursue college degrees in STEM. Launched in 2012,
each year features a different science theme, and attendees participate in interactive science projects. Instrumental in the
program's success are dedicated science educators and students at Waiakea High School. Women professionals in STEM
fields speak to and encourage the girls to stay on a STEM pathway. "Amelia Earhart Day was a great opportunity for me to
engage young women with an interest in science, and for them to learn more about what a chemist actually does," said
Natalie Crist, UH-Hilo Chemistry Instructor.
* 53.501(c)(3) Mission Statement
Empower women and girls though public service and advocacy.
* 54.
