Public Purpose of Requested Funds <br />Per §2-138 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the County may grant an award only if the <br />proposed program or service provides direct public benefits and fulfills a public purpose within the County. <br />51. According to §2-136, "public purpose" is defined as a benefit to, improvement of, or promotion of the <br />interests in the following areas. Please select all the public benefits to be derived from your County fund <br />request: <br />Culture and the arts <br />Educational concerns <br />Needs of the poor, youth, the aged, those with physical or emotional disabilities <br />Public health and welfare of the people and the environment <br />52. In 2,000 characters or less, describe the measurable outcomes you aim to achieve with these <br />funds. <br />The Pepe'ekeo Community Development Corporation (PCDC) conducts 4-6 Aloha `Nina Project days at the shoreline <br />each year. PCDC's Fishing Access Committee members volunteer their time and bring their own equipment. If funded, <br />the program aims to provide necessary equipment and supplies, as well as repair and maintain the gates to ensure safe <br />access for community members. PCDC's Youth Sports Project participates in weekly practices and scrimmages year- <br />round. The program aims to provide equipment, uniforms, and safety gear to support youth participation, helping <br />participants develop teamwork, cooperation, and other positive life skills. PCDC's Community Education Training Project <br />offers training in emergency preparedness, CPR, basic first aid, and food sustainability, including canning, freeze-drying, <br />and home gardening. If funded, the program aims to cover operational fees and materials, expand access electronically, <br />and establish a resource tree —a directory of community contacts for members to turn to in unexpected situations. <br />
