With the requested $15,000, we aim to achieve several measurable outcomes that will directly benefit Council District 2 residents and the broader community: Increased Access to Fresh Produce: The project will establish at least three fruit stands in high -traffic areas, providing free, fresh, and locally sourced produce to underserved communities. We aim to distribute at least 300 pounds of produce per month through these stands, directly improving food access for individuals and families. Reduction of Food Waste: By creating a consistent outlet for surplus produce from local farms, we anticipate a significant decrease in food waste. We aim to divert at least 15,000 pounds of surplus food from landfills annually, ensuring it reaches those in need instead. Community Engagement: We will establish a direct communication channel through a text alert system. This system will notify at least 200 residents about fresh produce availability at their local stands. By the end of the first year, we expect to engage with at least 1,000 community members who will utilize the stands regularly. Through these outcomes, we aim to create a model that not only addresses immediate food insecurity but also builds long-term solutions to hunger and community well-being in Council District 2. The success of this project will provide a replicable framework for future food access initiatives across Hawaii County.
