*51. In 2,000 characters or less, describe the project.
The installation of a new scoreboard at Honoka'a High School will enhance community engagement, promote youth
development, and strengthen public use of shared facilities. The scoreboard will support school athletics and
community sporting events by providing a safe, functional, and accessible way to track games and events. These
events bring together families, residents, and visitors, fostering a sense of community pride and cohesion. Additionally,
the project supports positive youth activities that promote teamwork, physical fitness, and leadership, thereby
contributing to the overall well-being of the community. In terms of community benefit, the scoreboard will be used
not only by students but also by families and the larger Honoka'a community during games, tournaments, and other
gatherings. For youth development, it encourages discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among students and
young athletes. In providing public access, the Feld and scoreboard serve as shared resources for both school and
community events. By enhancing civic pride, athletics and extracurricular activities help strengthen school spirit, which
is deeply valued in rural areas like Honoka'a. Finally, safety and clarity are ensured through accurate and visible game
information for players, coaches, referees, and spectators, creating a well -organized and secure environment for all.
*52.501(c)(3) Mission Statement
To empower young people in Hawaii with valuable water safety and emergency lifesaving knowledge.
* 53. In 1,000 characters or less, explain how the 501(c)(3) is connected to the project.
The Alexander & Duke De Rego Foundation is deeply rooted in the Honoka'a and broader Hawaii Island community.
Its mission is to provide water safety, ocean awareness, and lifesaving education for youth, and it partners closely with
schools across the island, including Honoka'a High School, to fulfill that mission. Supporting the installation of a new
scoreboard aligns with the Foundation's commitment to youth development and community well-being. Athletics, like
water safety, are a platform for teaching teamwork, discipline, leadership, and resilience —values that prepare young
people for success both in and out of the classroom. By contributing to the scoreboard project, the Foundation is
helping to create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for students, families, and the wider community. This
investment strengthens its connection with Honoka'a High School and reflects its dedication to uplifting youth through
education, healthy activities, and community pride.
