47. According to §2-136, "public purpose" is defined as a benefit to, improvement of, or promotion of the
interests in the following areas. Please select all the public benefits to be derived from your County fund
request:
Culture and the arts
Educational concerns
Needs of the poor, youth, the aged, those with physical or emotional disabilities
Public health and welfare of the people and the environment
48. In 2,000 characters or less, describe the measurable outcomes you aim to achieve with these
funds.
The IGpuka Farmacy project will deliver measurable improvements in community health, wellness, and self-sufficiency.
Outcomes include the cultivation and distribution of hundreds of medicinal and food starter plants each year, enabling
households to grow their own la'au and nutritious foods. The number of plants will measure the success of
propagation, distribution, and active use by community members. Participants will gain measurable knowledge in
chronic disease prevention, inflammation management, and the safe use of plant -based remedies through workshops
and hands-on sessions. Gains will be tracked via pre- and post -assessments, attendance, and engagement levels. The
mala la'au will serve as a living classroom, with measurable outcomes including the number of plant species grown,
the number of garden enhancements completed, and the level of volunteer and community participation. Community
resilience will increase as more residents adopt home cultivation of plants, practice self -care, and share knowledge
with'chana and neighbors. Collectively, these outcomes will result in a healthier, more informed, and self-reliant Puna
community while preserving traditional Hawaiian healing knowledge.
