In 2,000 characters or less, describe the project. <br />The annual Kupuna Hula Festival is a culturally significant event that brings together kupuna (elders) from across Hawaii <br />Island and beyond to showcase their hula artistry. This multi -day festival at the Kona Outrigger Resort celebrates and <br />perpetuates Hawaiian traditions, language, and values through hula dance. Beyond performance, the festival fosters <br />kupuna's well-being by providing a supportive space for social connection, physical activity, and cultural expression. It also <br />serves as an educational platform for the community and visitors, strengthening intergenerational ties and deepening <br />appreciation for Hawaiian heritage. The festival includes live music by local musicians, hula competitions judged by cultural <br />experts, traditional ceremonies, and community engagement activities. Funding will support the festive to ensure a safe, <br />accessible, and professionally produced event that honors kupuna and enriches Hawaii s cultural landscape. <br />*43. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement <br />To develop and provide community service projects and activities that meet the needs of the community. <br />*44. In 1,000 characters or less, explain how the 501(c)(3) is connected to the project. <br />The Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc., collects, manages, and disburses funds in partnership with the <br />Kupuna Hula festival coordinators to plan and support their annual cultural hula event. <br />*45. Please upload a completed CRF Grant Budget Form. <br />4CRF Budget form.xlsx <br />Public Purpose of Requested Funds <br />Per §2-138 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the County may grant an award only if the <br />proposed program or service provides direct public benefits and fulfills a public purpose within the County. <br />46. According to §2-136, "public purpose" is defined as a benefit to, improvement of, or promotion of the <br />interests in the following areas. In 2,000 characters or less, describe the measurable outcomes you aim to achieve with these funds. <br />Measurable outcomes include hosting at least 250 kupuna hula practitioners representing multiple districts of Hawaii <br />Island and beyond; attracting a live audience of several hundred attendees per day; providing high -quality cultural <br />programming, including judged performances, workshops, and community activities; and creating video and photographic <br />documentation to preserve and share the event broadly. The festival will strengthen kupuna well-being through increased <br />social engagement and cultural participation. Additionally, the event will foster community pride, promote Hawaiian <br />cultural knowledge, and support local artists and businesses. These outcomes ensure the festival's role as a vital cultural <br />event that uplifts Hawaii's kupuna and perpetuates the living tradition of hula. <br />
