REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON <br />GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS <br />DATE: February 3, 2026 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Hilo, Hawaii <br />TIME: 9:00 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Re: Comm. No. 705 <br />Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred <br />Communication No. 705, reports as follows: <br />Communication No. 705, transmitted by Mayor C. Kimo Alameda, dated January 15, 2026, <br />requests the Council's review and confirmation of the nomination of Kanoe Suganuma Wilson to the <br />Windward Planning Commission. <br />Executive Assistant to the Mayor, Micah Alameda, was present in the Hilo Chambers to introduce <br />Ms. Wilson, who was also present in the Hilo Chambers. <br />Committee Members Ashley L. Kierkiewicz, Rebecca Villegas, and Michelle M. Galimba spoke in <br />favor of the appointment. Member Kierkiewicz mentioned that this isn't just an advisory role and <br />sometimes their Commissiod decisions carry the weight of law. Member Kierkiewicz has witnessed <br />the nominee's work on other boards and commissions and she believes that Ms. Wilson has passion <br />and experience to serve in this role well.
