FY2026 Big Island Invasive Species Committee Deliverables for COH R&D Allocation $250,000 <br />Plant Eradication <br />• A minimum of 1100 acres will be surveyed annually for devil weed (Chromolaena odorata, ChrOdo) with <br />12,000 plants being controlled. <br />• 1,000 acres will be surveyed for BIISC target eradication & containment species, and 5,000 plants will be <br />controlled. <br />Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle <br />• With the assistance of CRB Response, BIISC will offer the required training program for all businesses <br />required to obtain a Compliance Agreement from the Hawaii Dept of Agriculture PQ Branch in order to <br />transport potential CRB host material in and outside of the designated area in Kona as per the pending <br />interim rule. Will offer a minimum of 15 in -person and 4 virtual trainings for the year to help businesses <br />meet the requirements of the compliance agreements. <br />• BIISC staff will provide assistance to businesses in the affected area in ensuring their protocols and <br />practices meet the requirements of the compliance agreements and also are tailored to best prevent the <br />spread of CRB. A minimum of 12 businesses will be assisted. BIISC will contract with a professional <br />detection dog service to offer CRB inspection for potted plants and other materials before transport. <br />• BIISC will offer a public education program to residential and small Ag operations in the CRB-affected <br />areas on reducing risk of CRB infestation utilizing netting, traps, tree protection via chemical and <br />mechanical means, and more. At least 6 trainings, either in -person or virtual, will be offered. <br />Queensland Longhorn Beetle <br />• BIISC will provide a minimum of two trainings on utilizing entomopathogenic nematodes to fight QLB in <br />orchard trees. <br />• BIISC will rear and fulfill at least 50 requests for nematodes by Big Island residents and farmers, and will <br />provide application tools as needed to help with nematode application. <br />• BIISC will provide field support to researchers investigating and evaluating control methods for QLB. <br />Twolined Spittle Bug <br />• BIISC will hire two staff members dedicated to outreach, education, and research support on two -lined <br />spittlebug, and will work closely with the CTAHR team to provide support and assistance to island <br />ranchers and land managers dealing with TLSB infestation. <br />
