COUNTY OF HAWAII / } STATE OF HAWAII <br /> :•1TF GF•M►•� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 589 2 S <br /> A RESOLUTION AWARDING THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I WAIWAI NONPROFIT <br /> GRANTS-IN-AID FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30,2027. <br /> WHEREAS, Section 2-139(a)(1)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as <br /> amended) (hereinafter, "the Code") states that the Director of Finance shall establish a sum of at <br /> least$2,500,000 to be available for funding requests by nonprofit organizations through the <br /> County's Waiwai grants-in-aid program; and <br /> WHEREAS, Section 2-138 of the Code provides, in part that"nonprofit organizations to <br /> receive grant funding shall yield direct benefits to the public and accomplish public purposes <br /> within the County"; and <br /> WHEREAS, on March 3, 2026,the Council's Committee on Legislative Approvals and <br /> Acquisitions (hereinafter, "LAAC")formed an Ad Hoc Committee for the purpose of reviewing <br /> nonprofit applications and making award recommendations; and <br /> WHEREAS, at a meeting of the LAAC on May 19,2026,the Ad Hoc Committee <br /> submitted its recommendations via Communication No. 752.02 to award Waiwai grants-in-aid to <br /> sixty-two eligible programs for a total of$2,515,000; and <br /> WHEREAS, a list of the recommended nonprofit organizations to receive funding is <br /> attached hereto and incorporated herein as "Exhibit A"; now,therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br /> pursuant to Section 2-139 of the Code, Waiwai grants-in-aid totaling$2,515,000 are hereby <br /> awarded to the nonprofit organizations as set forth in"Exhibit A". <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that pursuant to Section 2-139 of the Code,the <br /> Director of Finance shall notify the nonprofit organizations of their funding or lack thereof by <br /> August 31,2026. <br />
