Honorable James Y Arakakt, Chattman <br /> <br /> and Members of the County Council <br /> <br /> Page 7 <br /> ecosystems The protect area is located mauka of Akont Pule Highway more than tw•o <br /> miles from the nearest coastline and adJacent to existing residences and commercial uses <br /> The progeny is not located within an area recognized by the General Plan as an example <br /> of natural beauty Therefore, the proposed development will not adversely impact any <br /> scenic or open space resources to the shoreline, coastal view plane, and coastal <br /> ecosystems <br /> Finally, tt should be noted that the reclassification action would also conform to <br /> the following goals, obJectrves and~'or pobctes articulated m the Hawau State Plan <br /> relating to Socto-cultural advancement -Housing obJectrves and policies <br /> (a) Planning for the State's socto-cultural advancement with regard to housing shall <br /> be directed towards achievement of the following obJechves <br /> (1) Greater opportunities for Hawatt's people to secure reasonably pnced, <br /> safe, sanitary, livable homes located to suitable environments that <br /> sattsfactonly accommodate the needs and desires of families and <br /> individuals <br /> (2) The orderly development of residential areas sensitive to community needs <br /> and other land uses <br /> (b) To achieve the housing obJectrves, tt shall be the policy of this state to <br /> (1) Effectively accommodate the housing needs of Hawatt's people <br /> (2) Stimulate and promote feasible approaches that increase housing choices <br /> for low-income, moderate-income and gap-group households <br /> (3) Increase home ownership and rental opportunities and choices to terms of <br /> quality, location, cost, densities, style, and size of housing <br /> (5) Promote design and IocaUon of housing developments taking into account <br /> the physical setting, accessibility to public factlmes and services, and <br /> other concerns of extstmg communities and surrounding areas <br /> (6) Foster a vanety of lifestyles traditional to Hawau through the design and <br /> maintenance of neighborhoods that reflect the cultures and values of the <br /> community <br /> <br />
