yr.yL~v 74-5100 Halsdorro St ~I /\OY~/I~~ I(ellwa(ona, HI 987{0 At doe V1~glels ai La 9'rt~uivBAss+oll~a6ioin ~ r, September 18, 2000 77399 Nalani St Suite 104 Kadua-Kona, HI 96740.8980 _ c~ Dear Councilman Tyler I would hke to extend the appreciafxn from our community of Kanahale for your efforts In trying to resolve the Issues at hand regardhg the students of Kealakehe High Sdiool We have had safely and nuisance Issues of the students using K~nalehu Dnve, which fronts the subdivision of La 'I'opua , as a place for the high schad students to congregate and use this road as a drag stop dunng the lunch break and after school hours Homeowners along the frontage road have observed this display on a dally basis beginning with the last school year, dunng summer schod, and now during the new school year The students are parking on this sVeet, hiding In the bushes rether than behg in schad, doing drugs on the street and drag racing from one end of the road to the other We are very concerned for the safety of our children who are dropped off at the comer of Keanalehu Drne and Haleolono Street by the school bus and other citizens coming and going from our subdivision One of our board members has been meeting with the Hlgh Scholl end the Police Department as well as our community to try to resolve this problem We are proposing that the County of Hawaii install "No Parking Signs between Sam - 330pm Mon - Fri" on Keanalehu Drive between Kealakehe Parkway and Puohulihull St With this in place, It will force the students of the high scfrool to use their school pariring bt, as there wdl be no other parking available to them If they contnue to park here after the signs are posted, they well be sub~eded to atatxns repeatedly This will get the attentan of the parents who well then be responsible for their student's actions Hopefully this Nall also eliminate the congregating, the passing of Illegal drugs, Ilter on the street and hiding in the bushes If that bush area Is Leaned out by the state, then these children have no choice but to stay In doss Because this partxxtlar road is a county road, we ask that they come and Gean the Ilter that has accumulated dunng the past year I hope that the Council will take a hard look at this problem and address It accordingly Thls problem needs to be taken care of immediatey before one of our children Is seriously hurt We look forward to~heanng from you Sin ly' /JwCJ Dora Puo 1.
