1~4` 01 <br /> e. <br /> S <br /> 7 <br /> A <br /> a „e „s' <br /> HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES <br /> STATE OF HAWAII <br /> STATE CAPITOL <br /> HONOLULU, HAWAII 96813 <br /> ~ <br /> December 19, 2000 By <br /> ra~.`~L°- <br /> Countp Cou1rJ1 / P- ~ C <br /> Madam Chauwomen and members of the Planning Committce, Good Afternoon <br /> Thank you for the privilege of providing testimony m support of confirming Chris Yuen, <br /> as Planning Duector for the County of Hawaii <br /> I have known Chris as a friend, and as a colleague for a number of years, and during that <br /> time I have come to know him as a fair, competent, and dedicated person He is a <br /> principled individual, and an advocate for the things he believes in But above all, Chris <br /> is a person who not only has acute analytical skills, but is someone who withholds <br /> <br /> judgment until all the difFering interests are adequately considered and balanced <br /> I have had the opportunity to work on various issues with Chris, during his tenure as a <br /> State Land Board member It appears that this experience served as a valuable <br /> opportunity for making decisions that impeded the community, in a manner similar to <br /> decisions he will make as Planning Director It struck me, that while he was always able <br /> to maintain the public's interest, as grading the decision making process, he was also able <br /> to (from my perspective) fairly balance the competing interests involved <br /> Besides the intelligence and clarity of thinking, that he will bring with him to the <br /> position, I believe In Chris Yuen's personal integrity, and his commitment to the future of <br /> the Big Island He has raised his family here, and his "roots" run deep in Big Island soil <br /> I commend Mayor Kim for his selection of Chris Yuen as the Hawaii County's next <br /> Planning Director, and ask for your favorable consideration in his confirmation As a <br /> side note, I look forward to working with all of you, as well as the new administration in <br /> the 2001 legislative session <br /> Thank you for your attention <br /> Dwight Takamine <br /> Representative, 1`Distnct <br /> Na, ao.3~ <br /> FSIe No. <br /> Ref.
