These events draw panc~ipatit3n <br /> and media attention through out the world. An example of this Is the "World of Indigrnous Peoples <br /> Conference on Education," and the "International Bill Fish Tournament" held to Hilo and Katlua-Kona <br /> respectively. These, although positive factors for Hawai'i's economy, may also be an attraction for <br /> teaonst incidents <br /> Our limited budget prolubtts us from purchasmg the specialized equipment, that is necessary for the <br /> proper response and mthgarion of a weapons of mass destruction (WMD) mcidrnt. The opportunity to <br /> acquire this egwpmrnt through the Deparirrient of Justice, Office of Justice Program (DOJ/OJP) grant <br /> will enable us to respond in a safer, more efficient and professional manner. Thrs in turn will allow for <br /> better patient care, pnvacy, secunty and protection of our responders, supporter agencies and <br /> communities <br /> The technology used to combat chemical-biological agents change constantly and is now more available <br /> to the civilran population The awareness and Increased threat of a terronst type event has promptedthe <br /> pnvate industnes to create and improve on older technology, makmg this an opportune time to purchase <br /> them <br /> <br />
