Proposed Chaa>ie of 2aninQ in Kukuihaele
I would ainoerely appreciate your k6kue in initiating a public hearing on the proposed
change of zoning request submitted by Trees of Kukuihaele LLC, prior to any dedsbn
regarding the above by the Hawal'i Courtly Coundl. At present the general community
of Kukuihaele, where my family and I reside, la largely unawaro of all of the facts
surrounding this proposed change of zoning and the subsequent developrrwnt of these
areas While the developer hag spoken to some of tfw residents and held several
community rtteetings regarding his plena, many of the facts regarding this development
have either not been dlaclosed to the general community or are lust coming to Ilght now.
Some of these areas of concern indude•
• assurances made by the previous developer, which allowed for the change of zoning
In the first place, whlah the present developer does not intent to comply with
• failure of the previous landowner/developer of scud properties to submit yearly reports
for the past four years, which should have resulted in the planning director Irtltiating
down zoning of said properties
- claim by the applicant on Applicatwn For Change of Zone Form that no governmental
essistanee and/or improvements will tie needed to develop the subject area, when In
tact there nre presently only 5 units of water albcated to hla parcel whldt would not
nearly be sufficient for his 40 planned resort residences, as well as his planned
restaurant, office building and awimming pool
-that fact that the owner(s) of the other paroNs that were onc» part of Amanresort may
atilt elect to proceed with a development consistent with the current entitlements, which
would result In double the amount of units originally approved in the rezoning request.
- the taut that the development of a multi-millbn dollar resort project made up of artificial
trees over 20 feet high, that would encompass about a third of the entire village eroa is
in dlroct violation of the Hamakua Regional Plan prepared in 1990 by members of the
Hdimekua Steering Committee, which rewmmende that a reaideMial plantation
community be emphasized and the existing rural character of Kukuihaele be preserved
I sincerely appreciate your efforts and hope that the people of Kukuihaele, Waiplb and
the aurrounding area wul be given the opportunity to learn about and comment on thfaCe
proposal before a dsciafon that will change our lifestyle forever Is made.
