Arakaki, Chair <br /> and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> 25 Aupuni Street <br /> <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> On March 23, 2000, the Office of Housing and Community Development <br /> introduced the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Program to Council <br /> <br /> Members in a workshop held in the Council Room immediately following <br /> adjournment of the Housing Agency meeting. Members were informed that <br /> the County of Hawaii, through the OHCD, was the grant recipient of <br /> $4,066,153 in WIA federal funds via the State of Hawaii. Members were <br /> also informed that additional funds left over from the JTPA (Jobe <br /> Training Partnership Act) Program could be available at a future date, <br /> for transition into the newly created WIA Program. <br /> On February 20, 2001, our office received notice from the State <br /> Department of Labor ~ Industrial Relations that effective <br /> July 1, 2000, $517,598.51 of JTPA Program close-out funds were <br /> available for carry-over into respective WIA programs (i.e. Adult, <br /> Youth, Dislocated Worker, and Incentive Grant). <br /> By this letter, we are transmitting an attached Bill to amend the <br /> current budget to reflect the aforementioned changes.
