,yc! <br /> <br /> Harry Kim d,G'-'~~' Wllham Takaba <br /> Mayror Ovetror <br /> J. 1 ~ <br /> County of Hawaii <br /> Finance Department <br /> 25 Aupum Street, Room 118 • Hilo, Hawui 96720 <br /> (608) 961-8234 Fu (BOB) 961-8248 <br /> March 5, 2001 <br /> The Honorable Chairman James Y Arakaki <br /> and Members of the County Council <br /> County of Hawaii <br /> Hilo, HI 96720 <br /> Re Resolution Transferring $350,000 from the Contingency Relief Account to <br /> the Vacation Pay Account <br /> Last year Mayor Yamashiro's proposed FY 2000-01 budget to the County <br /> Council included funds in the Vacation Pay account for appointees expecting to <br /> leave county service at the end of his term As part of the Council's <br /> amendments, it reduced the Mayor's vacation pay proposal and included this <br /> amount in its Contingency Relief account <br /> Since July 1, 2000, County departments have been using their Salanes and <br /> Wages accounts to pay for unused vacation of employees leaving the County <br /> Recognizing this, affected departments were asked in early January to evaluate <br /> their Salaries and Wages accounts to determine the adequacy of respective <br /> accounts Besides the amount spent on vacation pay, departments were to also <br /> consider the amount saved on unfilled positions <br /> Based on information received, we have determined that $450,000 will be <br /> needed in the Vacation Pay account for those who already left and for those <br /> planning to leave the County on or before June 30, 2001 Since there is currently <br /> $100,000 in this account, $350,000 is the balance needed for the remainder of <br /> the year <br /> Departments with major protected shortages in Salaries and Wages due to <br /> vacation pay are Police ($125,693), Office of Management ($116,314), and <br /> Parks 8 Recreation ($89,002). Since we now have reasonably accurate <br /> protections for the year, we would like to replenish Salanes and Wages of <br /> affected departments , I <br /> Comm.
