I did however ask for two
stipulations. One the "Theme". I wanted something that would
create a feeling of "COMMON HUMANITY". Thus, thanks to both Luana
and Uncle Robert, "IMUA KAKOU"---"FORWARD TOGETHER AS ONE". And
two I asked for a CO/CHAIR and was applauded for thinking of and
getting GARY SAFARIK to come on board and along with BJ SNYDER
and BOB WILLIAMS the hard work began, with Pat Rocco filling in
where needed. They doing all the hard work and me having all the
fun getting the PAHOA BUSINESSES involved. (95~) and you know
who you are, thanks PAHOA it was great gett>_ng to know you on
this level.
In choosing a "COMMON HUMANITY" Theme "IMUA KAKOU" I was hoping
that the "PAHOA PARADE" would give this Island a good look
at the CULTURAL AND POLITICAL factors and FACTIONS that make
up our Society. And because of Puna's ETHNIC DIVERSITY >_t was
agreed upon to make it an all inclusive "WINTER PARADE" leaving
the "SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS" up to the Churches and the People on
how they wanted to protect same. All Announcements and Parade
Applicat>_ons were sent out under the heading "1998 PAHOA WINTER
PARADE", but when the Posters 6 Flyers were handed out "WINTER"
had turned into "CHRISTMAS", accepted, but also NOTED by quite a
few. As brought to the Public's attention by Aaron Anderson, Bob
WJlliams and Gary Safarik (Which I feel is very DEMOCRATICALLY
HEALTHY) there were d>_fferences and I submit the following to
strengthen this Island's RESOLVE.
It was I who asked Aaron Anderson to get involved, knowing that
our Governor >s look>ng at the HEMP & MEDICAL MARIJUANA
possibilities, knowing it >.s better to EDUCATE than INCARCERATE,
and knowing, most of all, the HYPQCRISY and INHUMANITIES
surrounding this TRAVESTY. I am not sorry nor will I apologize
for trying to re>ntroduce our Constitutional Rights back into
our Society. I also tried to get "OUR SKATEBOARDERS" Assimilated
into our commun>_ty, but two days before the PARADE I was told "In
no uncertain terms" by a very IRATE PHONE CALL from MY CO-CHAIR,
GARY SAFARIK that "any Skateboarder would be arrested for it was
against "THE LAW" to do same on the Street." It could have been
argued that the Parade "PERMIT" made >_t a Parade ROUTE instead of
a Street, but by that time the Skateboarders decided to RISE
above it and become consp>_cuous through their absence, even
though Graham of "The HJ.ccup Circus" offered to let them
Join his group which had many STILT-WALKERS and UNICYCLES wh>_ch,
under ordinary STREET circumstances, is also against "THE LAW".
Let us change some Rules, change some LAWS and change som
AttJ.tudes towards each other, for through CHANGE we may find so
ANSWERS.
