Mazch 18, 1997
Honorable James Arakaki
Council Chairman RECENED
Hawaii County Council
25 Aupuni Street x"10"'---``- , y ~~_Z, ~W
Hilo, HI 96720 Dates ~ County Council
Deaz Mr. Arakaki:
I am asking that the members of the Hawaii County Council to support the
allocation of funds in Resolution 5297 for the 25`~ Annual 4`" of July Fireworks Display
project conducted by the Lehua Jaycee.
As you and the members of the Council may know, the project has been an annual
event in Hilo, that celebrates the independence and freedom that we all enjoy by living in

the United States. It is enjoyed by tens of thousands of people and has served as the
major reason for picnics and gatherings of families and friends to enjoy the day together.
It also is the focus for other activities such as sporting events, craft displays and sales,
bon dances, and a concert by the Hawaii County Band, which depend on the crowds that
gather to watch the fireworks display.
As a past president of the Lehua Jaycees and a person involved in other
community organizations, I think it is important that the County through the actions of
the County Council recognized community organizations that provide valuable services-
and activities for the people of the Big Island, which may not be otherwise provided by
the County.
I again ask for your support and the support of the members of the Council in
passing Resolution 5297. Please include this letter as my testimony in support of
Resolution 5297 for the record and extend my apologies to the members of the Council
for not being able to testify in person. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Richazd Onishi
rile No. ENO QC
Naf. 'Ib! F'rQSented - CONHL ~ 1
Ret. ~ ] g 1997
