HAWAII 96721-17
Mr. James Aralcaki ~ < ,
Chairman C0
Hawaii County Council COUNTY OF HAWAII
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Dear Mr. Aralcaki:
Resolution No.52-97
Thank you for the opportunity to express our interest and opinion with regard to rile
above-mentioned resolution.
The Leliua Jaycees, for many years, have provided many. service projects for the
County of Hawaii, and one of these has Ueen the high-impact 4th of July fireworks
display.
This display attracts tens of thousands Big Islanders with a clear view of Coconut
Island and many of the residents that live outside of the vicinity who picnic in the area
from year to year. The citizens are treated with an awesome display of fireworks that
we are not able to witness at any other place in Hilo or any other time of the year.
Tt1e Lettua Jaycees' strong philosophy of perpetuating tradition and family bonding are
strong points that Keep our chapter memhers interested and willing to continue this
project year after year.
The rising cost of fireworks, the high cost of liability insurance and the cost of
shipping have made it more and more difficult tv provide the quality show (which
usually is only 1 /2 hour) to our residents.
Because we know that the County of Hawaii perpetuates many of our same values
in family life and this unique fireworks tradition, we ask your humble support in
providing some financial assistance towards this end. We ask you support Resolution
No. 52-97.
Thank you.
With warm regards,
BJ ri no, President
Comm. Dia ~q.~--~..
I+51e No._ FPI17~T~
- }teF.
