Here is another quote from a lengthy paper on the H.S.U.S.:

" HSUS with it's 1.3 million members calls it's self the nations largest animal protection
organization. Few people know that HSUS's animal protection philosophy is not animal

welfare but an animal rights philosophy that says It is morally wrong for humans to use
or kill animals and that they have had that philosophy since 1990.(1)In recent years HSUS
elected to call themselves "animal protectionists" to disassociate their group from the bad
press that the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and PETA have brought to animal rights."
causes.
CONCLUSION
I respectfully request the County Council, in view of the above, to insure that whoever
has the animal shelter contract on the Big Island never again be allowed to discriminate
for their own philosophical purposes who may or may not adopt a dog, unless that person
is a documented animal abuser. I further request that the Council, at another time soon,
perhaps, place in the Animal Shelter contract the requirement that all adopted dogs, and
all euthanized dogs, shall be measured from nose tip to tail base, weighed, and
photographed. This is for their own record keeping of adoption policy effectiveness, and
to insure the Council and the people of the Big Island that ALL dogs have an effective
chance of adoption.
Sincerely,
B. Ka'imiloa Chrisman, M.D.
6
