No. 53-01 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> <br /> TIME: 10:10 A.M. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 53-O1, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 53-O1, transmitted by Assistant Corporation Counsel Gerald Takase, via <br /> Communication No. 124, dated February 16, 2001, authorizing and empowering the Finance Director <br /> <br /> to acquire tax map keys (3)2-4-025:044 and 2-4-025:046 for future expansion of the Public Safety <br /> Building complex for law enforcement purposes. <br /> <br /> The aforementioned properties are owned by Robert Eugene Witthans and is the subject of a <br /> bankruptcy proceeding. The County of Hawaii on behalf of the Hawaii County Police Department <br /> has been working with the bankruptcy trustee and the debtors' attorneys and can acquire the parcels <br /> for $175,000 with proceeds from the asset forfeiture account. <br /> The Department of Justice has approved the use of the asset forfeiture funds for the acquisition of <br /> <br /> these parcels, and the County is able to acquire these parcels at below their current assessed values. <br /> The County has been afforded a unique opportunity to purchase these properties, which would be <br /> desirable for the future expansion of the Hawaii County Police Department with the use of asset <br /> forfeiture funds approved by the Department of Justice. <br /> For informational purposes, Mr. Tyler voted kanalua twice. <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 53-O1 and <br /> recommends its adoption. <br /> smc <br /> AYES NOES A&E E~ <br /> Respectfully submitted <br /> CHUNG X <br /> rtstccllto x COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> ARA KA KI X <br /> ELARIONOFF X <br /> JACOBSON X <br /> LEITHEAD-TODD X <br /> SAFARIK x AARON S.Y.
